Pierce County Pocket Pets 4H Club 2005
Over the last ten years, Debbi Needham and her  two daughters
raised a variety of small animals at their city residence. They named their urban mini-farm Odd
Fellows. As customary when people breed show animals, the Needham's sold animals with the
intitials OFR placed in front of the name of the animal. That way breeders and hobbyists all over the
world would know where the animal came from.
The Needham family bred their animals to show standards. That means they used the breed
standards (found in the show club's standards books) as a guide to breed their animals. They kept
the best animals that conformed to those standards and bred them and sold offspring that did not
conform as well. They showed their animals in national and local clubs and the 4H to see how close
they'd come to meeting the standard. Judges in each show club know the standards so well, they
can look at an animal to see if it conforms. Their experiences are documented in pictures and writing
on the following links. The Needham family no longer keeps or breeds Pocket Pets,
but they still do keep a small flock of poultry.
